Post Show Report Russian Industry Week 2023

From 23 to 26 October 2023, EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds hosted Russian Industry Week 2023, the largest specialised platform for demonstrating the latest developments and discussing current challenges facing the industry.

For the first time, the 18th National Industry Congress was held at EXPOCENTRE, where industry experts discussed the issues of ensuring Russia’s technological sovereignty, import substitution, and localisation of high-tech production based on domestic industrial enterprises.

The Week includes EXPOCENTRE’s own exhibitions: the Technoforum 2023 international exhibition, the Rusweld 2023 international exhibition, Reklama 2023 international exhibition for advertising, the NDT Territory 2023 hosted project, and a number of events of the united conference programme.

This year the Week’s exhibitions showed a noticeable growth in all indicators. Technoforum 2023 grew two times, Rusweld 2023 increased by 20%, Reklama 2023 added more than 50% of exhibitors and almost 40% in terms of area compared to last year.

More than 460 companies took part in Russian Industry Week 2023. The exhibition area was about 10,000 sq m.

“This industry congress and exhibition project presents innovative developments and ideas based on quantum and additive solutions, artificial intelligence and other breakthrough technologies.

The priorities include creating conditions for launching a new investment cycle in all sectors, increasing the innovative potential of enterprises, stimulating demand for domestic products, and training modern engineering and labour personnel.”

EXPOCENTRE pays special attention to popularisation of science and invention in our country, as well as search, demonstration and support of developments and solutions created by Russian scientists and inventors.

On October 23, for the first time at the Week, Sciences and Inventions for Life photo exhibition  was launched as part of the programme of the Festival of the All-Russian Society of Inventors and Rationalizers (VOIR), which ran until November 23.

The official opening ceremony of the photo exhibition was attended by Deputy Chair at the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, Chair at the Organising Committee of NTI Expo, Chair at the Central Council of VOIR Vladimir Kononov, Vice-President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Dmitry Kurochkin, Chair at the Committee on Exhibition, Fair, and Convention Activity of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Director General at EXPOCENTRE AO Alexey Vyalkin.

Show Highlights 

Technoforum 2023 has grown significantly in comparison with the last year: in terms of area by two times and in terms of the number of exhibitors by 50%.

Five resident companies presented their developments for various industries at the group stand of the Skolkovo Foundation: Beaver Lab, Irbistech, Metal Cleaner, RV 3D Technologies, and Scanform.

The achievements of the additive technologies industry were presented at the exhibition by the Association for Additive Technologies Development. Key companies of the additive industry took part in the group stand: Biograd (3D LAM, 3DLAMTrade), 3D Integration, Onsint, Rusatom Additive Technologies, MISIS, and F2 innovations. A series of business events dedicated to the topical issues of additive manufacturing were also held.

This year Technoforum paid special attention to Russian manufacturers. Over the past year, many of them have discovered new opportunities and made a serious step forward. Many new brands appeared, which became a discovery for visitors to the exhibition.

Conference Programme

The Congress was organised by the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Initiative Centre for Business Support and Development.

The main topics of the Congress were the strategy of import substitution and structural adaptation of the economy under sanctions, support for Russian manufacturers and stimulation of the creation of high-tech industries, development of industrial clusters, accelerated introduction of digital technologies, formation of new transport and logistics corridors, and international cooperation.

Plenary meeting on Strategy for the Implementation of Projects of Technological Sovereignty and Structural Adaptation of the Economy

Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia, delivered the keynote speech. Sergey Katyrin, President of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, moderated the meeting.

The Congress included five strategic sessions:

-         Digital Sovereignty of the Industry

-         Development of Industrial Cooperation and Investment Projects within the EAEU

-         Railway Engineering is the Locomotive of the Economy

-         Metallurgy: a New Vector of Development

-         The Aviation Industry: a Course Towards Import Substitution.

  • Strategic Session on Training of Engineering Personnel in the Face of New Challenges

It was organised by the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education and EXPOCENTRE AO and ran under the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Vladimir Kononov, Deputy Chair of the Russian State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education, chaired the session. He noted the priority of personnel policy in the development of the Russian industry. The session was attended by Sergey Selivanov, First Deputy Director General at EXPOCENTRE AO, Sergey Salikhov, First Vice-Rector of NUST MISIS, Elena Druzhinina, Managing Director for Research and Development at Rostec State Corporation, Roman Churaevsky, Rector of the Corporate University of Norilsk Nickel MMC, and other heads of universities from different regions of Russia. They shared their own experience and ideas in the work on education and training of qualified specialists.

  • Panel on the Current State and Prospects of Development of Additive Technologies in Russia Taking into Account the Course to Technological Independence

The panel was held by the Association for Additive Technologies Development and  EXPOCENTRE AO. The participants talked about the development of the 3D printing industry in Russia given the current economic situation, ways of developing additive technologies in a restricted environment, the development of materials and additive technologies for the manufacture of high-tech products, state support measures for the industry, and much more.

  • Discussion session on How to Ensure Smooth Operation of the Enterprise During the Sudden Change of Digital Technologies and Renewal of Machinery

The session was organised by Zyfra Group and EXPOCENTRE AO. Invited experts discussed the changes in the industrial equipment market in today’s reality, their impact on production management and ways of solving emerging problems.

  • Conference on Science, Innovation and Technology in Additive Technologies

The speakers touched upon the development of leading additive technologies and materials, existing and promising technological solutions in 3D printing, the use of digital production methods for serial parts, software for additive technologies, development trends, best practices of additive technologies in Russia, and other important topics.

Show Highlights

This year Rusweld showed 20% growth compared to last year. The attention of specialists was drawn to post-processing, renewal and increase of wear resistance of products and structures, quality control in production. The Laser Technologies section was presented for the first time.

Welding professionals were acquainted with product samples, held negotiations with customers and suppliers. The welding equipment market is going through difficult times, but Rusweld 2023 has convincingly demonstrated that the business is quickly rebuilding and successfully finding new ways of development.

Conference Programme

  • Scientific and Practical Conference on Welding Today and Tomorrow

The event was organised by NAKS – the National Agency of Welding Control and EXPOCENTRE AO and attracted a large professional audience. The sections devoted to standardisation and research in welding production, welding equipment and materials, quality control of welded joints were attended by leading industry experts.

  • 2nd Conference on Robotics Technology in Machine Building

It was organised by the Russian Association of Robotics and EXPOCENTRE AO. According to the speakers, an important step towards making enterprises more modern, technologically advanced and efficient is robotisation of production. High-tech robotic complexes and conveyor lines, separately installed robots, both industrial and collaborative, optimise welding, cutting, metal painting and logistics processes at hundreds of enterprises today. The conference participants discussed the main aspects of robotisation and what the market offers to customers today.

  •  Master classes on all arc welding techniques

They were organised by RWT Welding School (Russian Welders Team) at its stand. The participants demonstrated a unique staffing system, looked at the operation of various exhibitors’ welding equipment, showed how to assemble structures that are welded at world championships, and demonstrated finished competition entries.

  •  Open discussion on Shortage of Welders on the Labour Market and Ways to Overcome this Situation

  • Discussions on The Way of the Welder. Where to Start (watch the broadcast), Popularisation of the Welding Profession in Russia (watch the broadcast) were held by Sergey Kuznetsov, Head at the Kuznetsy Molodtsy Workshop, founder of RemSvarStroy

The Rusweld 2023 exhibition included a meeting of the NAKS – the National Agency of Welding Control, the Assembly of the Russian Welding Professional Community (RWPC), the open meeting of the Rosstandart Technical Committee for Standardisation TK 364 on Welding and Related Processes, and the open meeting of the Council for Vocational Qualifications in Welding.  

  • Conference on Sheet Metalworking: Practices for Organising Production Processes

It was focused on the development of practices and exchange of experience of specialists interested in purchasing technological equipment for cutting operations: laser, plasma, water cutting, as well as bending: sheet bending presses and dies. The presentations touched upon the growing interest in solutions for robotisation, automation of blanking production and digitalisation of technological processes, which allow to improve the quality of products, ensure transparency and planning at different levels.

  • Conference on Solutions and Components for a Comfortable Working Environment

It was devoted to the development of PPE practices, digitalisation solutions for modelling industrial facilities to meet industrial safety requirements digitalisation solutions for modelling industrial facilities with regard to industrial safety requirements, as well as to digitalisation solutions for training and control to improve working conditions and workplace safety.

  • Masterclass on Interactive Methods of Training for High-hazard Jobs

The event was organised by SAFETY GAMES 360 and ran within the new PPE (personal protective equipment) section.

  • Open Microphone: Welding in Russia – the Point of View of a Practitioner

The event was moderated by Ivan Ilyukhin, YouTube blogger Tig Tula. Rusweld 2023 was attended by popular bloggers who created thematic content on welding topics and raised the prestige of the welding profession, which is very important in the context of a shortage of qualified personnel.

  • Weld Queen Welding Fashion Show (watch the broadcast) and Not a Woman’s Profession with a Woman’s Face (watch the broadcast). Artist and sculptor Alexandra Weld Queen presented a collection of welding looks, from an evening dress to a tracksuit.

The next edition of Rusweld 2024 is to run on 9–12 September 2024 at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds.

Reklama 2023

The 30th edition of the International Exhibition for Advertising – Reklama 2023 – became a showcase of achievements and new opportunities of the advertising industry. It was part of Russian Industry Week. 

The special significance of the Reklama exhibition was given by the fact that the event was held in the year when the professional community celebrates 145 years of Russian advertising.

Show Highlights

Reklama 2023 surpassed last year’s figures: by 50% in terms of the number of participants and by 40% in terms of the exhibition area.  About 40% of exhibitors were newcomers. The participants were suppliers and manufacturers of outdoor advertising structures, LED displays, souvenir products, etc.

Regional group stands were presented at Reklama 2023 thanks to subsidising and co-financing of their participation by regional authorities.

Different types of equipment were in focus: printing equipment (for digital printing on various types of materials from paper and textiles to glass, plastic, and wood), equipment for engraving, cutting, marking, embroidery equipment for textile branding, materials and modern technologies for outdoor advertising production. The exhibitors put on display new equipment, LED screens, light boards, and corporate merchandise. Agencies providing branding, marketing, SEO and online promotion services took an active part in Reklama.

The stands were manned by professionals and technicians who introduced new equipment, answered questions on the use of materials and their special properties, and advised on the advantages of advertising products and services.

Conference Programme

The trade show was accompanied by a busy conference programme.

The key event of the Reklama 2023 conference programme was the Strategic Session on Russian Advertising 2023: Market, Trends, Technologies, organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and supported by RACA – the Russian Association of Communication Agencies. The session participants touched upon burning issues of the industry development, introduction of the latest technologies, including those based on artificial intelligence, measures of state and public regulation of advertising space.

The participants in the 12th International Forum – Advertising Matrix 2023 discussed the main trends in the Russian advertising market.

The speech was about significant changes in the market, which entail a reconfiguration of the entire Russian advertising industry due to the withdrawal of products from the domestic market due to the cessation of investments from Western companies. In his speech, President at the Marketers Guild Igor Berezin gave a general assessment of the market, noting both trends in recovery growth and weak dynamics of consumer optimism and changing consumer behaviour in the new situation.

The industry experts spoke about changes in regional advertising markets and current trends in the advertising market. In their opinion, advertising labelling remains extremely important for advertising agencies. The speeches touched upon branding, the nature of changes in this area of advertising activity, including the active introduction of artificial intelligence.

The forum also discussed other aspects of advertising production concerning design, creativity, modern methods of brand management and advertising activities.

For the fifth time the Digital Textile magazine with the support of EXPOCENTRE AO held the conference on Digital Printing and Textile Decoration. The reports were devoted to the review of the Russian market trends and global innovations in the field of textile printing. Andrey Makachev, Director General at Smart-T, opened the conference.

Representatives of Allart Service, Double V, Velles, RussCom, Smart-T, T&T (Textile and Technology), and TechnoPrint told about textile printing solutions, i.e. equipment, software, and consumables. They familiarised the audience with the equipment for printing on natural and synthetic fabrics and knitwear, solutions for digital printing on ready-made products and cut, novelties in the field of DTF-printing.

The conference participants discussed the results of 2022 in textile printing in Russia and the world and the prospects for the coming years. They considered various aspects of textile printing as an actively developing type of business in advertising and production companies. The conference ended with a report by the event moderator Mikhail Shpilkin, representing the Digital Textile and Legprom Review magazines. 

An important event for manufacturers and customers of outdoor advertising was the VISCOM Signforum on Visual Advertising: From Organising Effective Production to Global Trends. The forum discussed trends in the outdoor advertising industry in Russia today, and what it will be by 2030; global trends in the production of signs in the review of Chinese advertising companies. They talked about mistakes in organising the business of advertising and production companies, how professional teams help to solve problems during the crisis, and how properly prepare a design for outdoor advertising.

The Reklama 2023 exhibition has become a showcase of achievements and new opportunities of the advertising industry. The participants discussed the present and future of the Russian advertising at the conference programme.
