On 18–21 October 2021 EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds will hosted the 2nd Russian Industry Week. It is a large-scale annual series of events which brings together several leading trade shows, forums and conferences devoted to mechanical engineering and metalworking, welding production and the welding technology market, non-destructive testing and technical diagnostics, technologies and services for advertising production, precision measurement and metrology.

This year the Week included the Technoforum 2021 International Exhibition for Equipment and Technology for Materials Processing, the Rusweld 2021 International Exhibition for Welding and Cutting Equipment, Technologies and Materials, the NDT Territory 2021, the International Exhibition and Forum on Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics, the Reklama 2021 International Exhibition for Advertising, and other events.   

Russian Industry Week 2021 was part of the Year of Science and Technology in Russia. In view of this, the exhibitions and their conference programmes paid special attention to promoting and demonstrating the latest scientific and technological developments, innovative technologies, and cutting-edge ideas.

At the official opening ceremony, Vladimir Kononov, Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education and Chair of the NTI Expo Project Organising Committee said, “The Week is an important stage of the NTI Expo (Research-Technology-Innovations Expo) project, which aims to promote government programmes in science and technology, education, digital economy, industry, transport infrastructure and energy.

The ceremony was also attended by Alexey Uchenov, Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Gennady Krasnikov, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Chair of the Board of Directors of Mikron AO, Dmitry Pristanskov, Vice-President of Norilsk Nickel, Sergey Salikhov, First Vice-Rector of the MISIS National University of Science and Technology, and Sergey Piskarev, President of the Association of Communication Agencies in Russia.

In their welcome addresses, speakers pointed out that the exhibitions of Russian Industry Week showcase the latest examples of science-intensive, high-performance technological equipment, of which our country can be rightfully proud today. These events are unique because they reflect all production processes covering the full cycle from research to manufacture of finished products.

The official opening ceremony of Rusweld 2021 was held on the same day. International Exhibition for
Equipment and Technologies for Materials Processing 

Technoforum, as a central event of Russian Industry, has once again become an important event for developers, manufacturers and consumers of industrial equipment in mechanical engineering, machine tool construction and processing of construction materials.

The showcased high-tech equipment for the main processing industries, machine systems for processing metal, wood, stone, composite and polymer materials, robotics and production automation, additive technologies, and much more have once again proven to be in high demand among industry professionals. The highly relevant Additive Manufacturing and 3D Solutions section was a separate part of the show.

Companies from the Lipetsk, Penza and Vologda regions participated in the show thanks to the initiative and financial support of their regional funds. Each company's stand included a product demonstration area, as well as an area for business networking and meetings.

The exhibition featured a Centre of Science and Education with the participation of such leading Russian universities as the Mechanical Engineering Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the national University of Science and Technology, the Moscow Aviation Institute, and the Panov College of Modern Technologies.

The competition for industrial projects, TechnoLeader 2021, brought together all groups of manufacturers and consumers, both large industrial and private sector. The participants ranged from professional craftsmen to young students. The entries ranged from simple components to complex autonomous mechanisms.

The Employment Centre helped young professionals to find jobs, and assisted exhibiting companies in finding qualified personnel.

Rusweld 2021
International Exhibition for
Welding and Cutting Equipment, Technologies and Materials

Rusweld 2021 showcased advanced solutions and global practices in the field of welding equipment, materials and technologies for metal welding and cutting. The most important feature of the show is the opportunity to test equipment in action during the event. It ensured that exhibitors and visitors got the most out of their participation in Rusweld.

The participants of the Centre of Science and Education included the Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI) and the Moscow City Open College.

Rusweld 2021 hosted the Art of Welding competition, which brought together welding professionals and welding enthusiasts from all over Russia. The community of welders grows every year, and this year more than 30 master welders applied for the competition. You can see all works on the official Instagram account at @rusweld.ru.

The Employment Centre helped young professionals to find jobs, and assisted exhibiting companies in finding qualified personnel.

One of the most important topics at Rusweld 2021 was non-destructive testing of working properties and parameters of welded joints and products to detect defects. The Russian Society for Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics organised the International Forum: NDT Territory and many other interesting conference events as part of the Russian Industry Week.

International Exhibition for Advertising

Reklama 2021 was part of Russian Industry Week for the first time.

Reklama showcased the entire range of technologies and services for advertising production, including all types of visual advertising communications from traditional to the digital media which is now gaining momentum due to the technological transformation of the industry.

The stand of the Youth Startup Centre showcased projects by students from the Higher School of Economics (HSE) entitled A Startup from Scratch: the Practice of Creating Your Own Business.

EXPOCENTRE AO and the Higher School of Economics concluded an agreement of intent at Reklama 2021. It was signed by Director General of EXPOCENTRE AO Alexey Vyalkin and HSE Vice President Igor Agamirzyan.

“This agreement with the Higher School of Economics is a continuation of the work aimed at promoting young scientists and inventors. At the exhibition, we saw how very young guys are presenting their products, trying to commercialise them, and already succeeding in doing so. They have signed contracts with manufacturing companies that are ready to take their technology and put it into production. The agreement includes specific practical steps, and we will continue to expand our cooperation.”

Alexey Vyalkin and Igor Agamirzyan visited the HSE stand, talked to students and discussed their business development prospects. Eight start-ups were exhibited at the stand, including seven made by students and one school one.

Conference programme

Russian Industry Week’s extensive conference programme started with the Plenary Meeting on Additive Manufacturing: from Import Substitution to Technological Competiveness, and the following Panel Discussion on Additive Technologies: On the Path to Production Transformation. The events were organised by EXPOCENTRE AO with assistance from the Russian State Duma Committee on Education and Science, and the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, and operated by the Prioritet Agency of Business Communications and AKME.

The meeting focused on the priorities of implementation of the Strategy for Development of Additive Technologies in the Russian Federation until 2030, while the panel discussion participants discussed production issues and the application of additive technologies in key areas of industry.

“Additive technology is a relatively new but rapidly developing industry sector. While in 2015 the Russian market for additive technologies amounted to 705 million roubles, by 2020 it grew more than fivefold.”  

Alexander Lvov, Deputy Director of the Department of Machine Tooling and Heavy Engineering of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, spoke in more detail about the development strategy for additive technologies

The participants discussed in detail measures to stimulate R&D in the field of additive technologies, additive technologies as a decarbonization tool, training of personnel for the industry of the future, additive technologies for manufacturing industries, localisation of the material and technical base of key processes of development, production, service maintenance of additive equipment and other important issues. Representatives of such major organisations and companies as the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the National University of Science and Technology, the St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University, Nornickel, Gazpromneft, Roskosmos, Rusatom, RusAT OOO, and the Industry Development Fund shared their experience in applying additive technologies.

The plenary session ended with the award ceremony of the TechnoLeader competition in the Additive Manufacturing nomination.

Another important event was the four-day International Forum on Additive Technologies and 3D Solutions: INDUSTRY 3D, which was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and operated by WebConf.

Each day was devoted to a relevant topic: the Day of 3D Startups, Manufacturers of Additive Technologies and 3D Controls, the Day of 3D Printing in Machine Building, the Digital Foundry Day. Industrial 3D Printing with Polymers, the Day of Simulation, Topology Optimisation and the ARKATA Association.

Additive manufacturing experts from Russia and other countries shared their experiences and information about the latest developments and innovations on the AM and 3D solutions market and their implementation in the mechanical engineering, foundry and metrology sectors.

Manufacturers, integrators, users, researchers and university professors presented their solutions, technologies, services, materials, educational programmes and research developments, and discussed current industry topics.

Rusweld 2021 hosted a congress of organisations participating in the Welding Certification System and the Professional Qualification Board for Welding (VBW), organised by NAKS – the National Agency of Welding Control.

The Welding 2021. Looking Into the Future Conference and the workshop on the Role of Standardisation, Education, Qualification Assessment, Certification and Inspection in Quality Assurance in Welding Production were held within the NAKS assembly.

The Professional Qualification Board for Welding organised a demonstration of independent qualification assessment in the form of vocational examination in accordance with professional standards.

The final stage of the Russian Non-Destructive Testing Competition organised by the Russian Society for Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics – Defectoscopist 2021 – was held within Rusweld. The best Russian NDT specialists, winners of regional contests, took part in the competition.

The 5th International Conference on Aluminium Welding: New Developments in Welding, Surfacing in the Production of Aluminium and Aluminium Alloys was organised by the Aluminum Association in partnership with leading companies in the aluminum industry and EXPOCENTRE AO in a hybrid format. Representatives of the professional communities of welders shared their experience of using aluminum as a high-tech, efficient material with unique consumer properties.

The conference participants discussed properties of welded joints of alloy sheets and plates made by friction stir welding; promising aluminum alloys for use in welded structures, aluminum welding consumables produced in Russia, new technologies for welding light alloys, and many other issues. Representatives of Arkonik SMZ, ILMiT, the Scientific Research Center of SK at the Bauman University, Avial, Sespel, the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and other participants spoke during the discussion.

The Russian Association of Robotics (RAR) in cooperation with EXPOCENTRE AO held the Workshop on Robotic Welding and Cutting of Metals, which attracted a lot of attention from industry professionals and experts. Representatives of robotic companies spoke about the latest technologies and approaches to robotisation of welding production, as well as how to prepare production for robotisation, and where to train employees.

The Youth Day was held at Technoforum and Rusweld as part of the Year of Science and Technologies. Its main event was the TechnoLeaderNEXT competition with participation of student teams from specialised higher and secondary educational institutions that prepare professionals for manufacturing industries. The Youth Day programme was supplemented by the Panel on Advanced Training of Personnel in the Context of Industrial Upgrade, where experts discussed the situation with human resources, training of young specialists, new formats of interaction between employers and educational institutions. The winners are the Stankin Moscow State University of Technology, the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, and the Chekhov College.

Events of the Reklama 2021 conference programme also generated a lot of interest.

The conference programme opened with the 10th anniversary Advertising Matrix Forum, organised by the Imperia Congress and Exhibition Company and EXPOCENTRE AO. The forum participants learned about the latest technologies for advertising production during the pandemic, and how retailers selected suppliers of advertising equipment and services. They also receive information about more than 40 practical cases from the advertising market leaders. The forum included conferences at which professionals gathered to discuss new advertising channels in 2022. Experts from the largest IT companies, advertising agencies and manufacturers shared fresh analytics, data, experience and knowledge about the global and Russian advertising market. The forum speakers were representatives of such major companies as Yandex, MTS, 2GIS, Romir, Trout&Partners, AdMetrix, Sendsay, Depot, and others.

Another important event of Imperia was the 2nd Russian Conference on Modern Packaging. The participants discussed the challenges faced by manufacturers and consumers of packaging solutions, promising areas for the development of manufacturing business, how to plan a packaging business in a time of instability, how to make packaging 'healthy' and in demand, and questions for suppliers of packaging made of cardboard, polymers, metal, and glass.

The central event of the conference programme was the two-day Forum on Communications 2030: Trends, Risks, Transformation. It was organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and the Association of Communication Agencies in Russia (AKAR) with support of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, IAB Russia, the Association of Brand Consultancies of Russia, the Russian Association of Marketing Services (RAMU), the National Association of Visual Communications (NAVC), and the National Association of TV & Radio Broadcasters (NAT).

The forum started with the visiting joint meeting of the Committee for Entrepreneurship in Advertising of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Coordination Council for Social Advertising and Social Communications of the Civic Chamber of Russia. The event co-moderators were Sergey Piskarev, President at the Association of Communication Agencies in Russia (AKAR), Chair at the Committee for Entrepreneurship in Advertising of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Elena Topoleva-Soldunova, Chair at the Commission on Development of the Nonprofit Sector and Support of Socially Oriented Nonprofit Organisations of the Russian Civic Chamber, Committee Head at the Coordination Council for Social Advertising and Social Communications of the Civic Chamber of Russia.

Representatives of the advertising business and community experts discussed two main topics: the approach to defining advertising as social and the creation of commissions that will assess the quality of social advertising for further placement. Elena Reshetova, Vice President at the Association of Communication Agencies in Russia (AKAR), Co-chair at the AKAR Commission on Social Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility, elaborated on social advertising approaches. Presentations of other speakers also aroused great interest.

The forum’s first day also featured the Strategic Session on the Communications Industry – the Real Economy, which was devoted to a role of the media and communication industry in the Russian economy. The discussions covered such topics as the communications industry and the state, the economics of communications and communications of the economy, digital economy communications trends, creative industries as a new source for economic growth, a role of brands in the modern economy, and communication trends in the social economy.

The forum also included discussion panels by market sectors that reflected the dynamics of the advertising industry, and sessions devoted to media content, automation of business processes in outdoor advertising, territory branding, merchandising, and new markets in the promotional industry.

The conference of manufacturers of outdoor advertising, held by the VISCOM Association within SIGNForum 2021, and the Conference on Digital Printing and Textile Decoration, organised by EXPOCENTRE AO and the Digital Textile magazine, aroused great interest among the exhibitors and professional visitors.

Feedback from the exhibitors and visitors to Russian Industry Week 2021 confirms the importance of its events in these challenging times.

The developments and equipment on show were highly praised by professional visitors. Many of them held important business meetings, generated new business contacts and expressed their wish to participate in next year's exhibitions.

The Exhibitors and visitors are optimistic and preparing for Russian Industry Week 2022, which will take place at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds from 24 to 27 October 2022.
