Robotisation of production: an important step towards technological advances and efficiency

The Conference on Robotics Technology in Machine Building has taken place at EXPOCENTRE Fairgrounds within the conference programme of Russian Industry Week and Rusweld 2022. The event was organised by the Russian Association of Robotics (RAR) in cooperation with EXPOCENTRE in a hybrid format and brought together various aspects and topics related to robotics in mechanical engineering.

The participants showed how high-tech robotic systems and individually installed robots optimise welding, cutting, painting and logistics.

RAR Executive Director Olga Mudrova moderated the event. Welcoming participants to the conference, she highlighted the opportunities for robotisation. "Mechanical engineering is one of the key areas that is actively being robotised, as it has a large market capacity and potential, and a large number of consumers and manufacturers. We used to say that robotisation is cool because it gives us the opportunity to actively increase productivity, but now it is cool because robotisation and robotics give us new opportunities to create new products. Robotics, as an active driver in mechanical engineering, is becoming more and more incorporated into areas of our lives in Russia," said the moderator.

The Session on Trends in Robotisation of Machine-Building Enterprises was opened by Alisa Sotnikova, Deputy Director of Degree of Freedom OOO, with a presentation on Collaborative Robots for Process Automation. According to the speaker, it is necessary to introduce collaborative robots to the market. She drew the audience's attention to their advantages: rather low costs in terms of set-up and changeover, mounting and dismounting, easy creation of auxiliary interfaces, high level of integration, and ability to work alongside humans.

Alexey Korablev, Chairman of the Board of the Creonomyca HiTech & Engineering Cluster, spoke about competencies in implementing digital twins for robotic production in mechanical engineering. In the expert's opinion, digital twins enable companies to create a new generation of competitive products in the shortest possible time, in particular new production facilities for import-substituting products. The digital twin allows for offline programming of all robotics, with the result that the company achieves significant efficiencies in the operation of its existing production. Production can also be upgraded more quickly and efficiently with the help of a digital twin.

Robowizard Deputy Director Roman Timofeev gave the pros and cons of robotisation in the crisis. Top 3D Group's leading industrial 3D equipment specialist Suleiman Bekmurzaev spoke about robots and additive solutions in the foundry industry.

The second session was devoted to Robotic Welding. The participants talked about the use of artificial intelligence in weld quality control, robotic modules for delivering payloads through pipelines, protecting the workspace for robotic welding processes, and how to choose a robot from the Asian region. Presentations were made by representatives of Nevlabs, Tubot, EuroLux Group Moscow, and SofPol.
